A princípio
me emaranhavas os pés
e eu caía de bruços
sobre a terra escura
ou enterrava os olhos
na poça
para ver as estrelas.
Mais tarde te apertaste
a mim com os dois braços da amante
e subiste
pelo meu sangue
como uma trepadeira.
E logo
te transformaste em taça.
Maravilhoso
foi
ir derramando-te sem que te consumisses,
ir entregando tua água inesgotável,
ir vendo que uma gota
caia sobre um coração queimado
que de suas cinzas revivia.
Mas
ainda não me bastou.
Andei tanto contigo
que te perdi o respeito.
Deixei de ver-te como
náiade vaporosa,
te pus a trabalhar de lavadeira,
a vender pão nas padarias,
a tecer com as simples tecedoras,
a malhar ferros na metalurgia.
E seguiste comigo
andando pelo mundo,
contudo já não eras
a florida
estátua de minha infância.
Falavas
agora
com voz de ferro.
Tuas mãos
foram duras como pedras.
Teu coração
foi um abundante
manancial de sinos,
produziste pão a mãos cheias,
me ajudaste
a não cair de bruços,
me deste companhia,
não uma mulher,
não um homem,
mas milhares, milhões.
Juntos, Poesia,
fomos
ao combate, à greve,
ao desfile, aos portos,
à mina
e me ri quando saíste
com a fronte tisnada de carvão
ou coroada de serragem cheirosa
das serrarias.
Já não dormíamos nos caminhos.
Esperavam-nos grupos
de operários com camisas
recém-lavadas e bandeiras rubras.
E tu, Poesia,
antes tão desventuradamente tímida,
foste
na frente
e todos
se acostumaram ao teu traje
de estrela cotidiana,
porque mesmo se algum relâmpago delatou tua família,
cumpriste tua tarefa,
teu passo entre os passos dos homens.
Eu te pedi que fosses
utilitária e útil,
como metal ou farinha,
disposta a ser arada,
ferramenta,
pão e vinho,
disposta, Poesia,
a lutar corpo-a-corpo
e cair ensangüentada.
E agora,
Poesia,
obrigado, esposa,
irmã ou mãe
ou noiva,
obrigado, onda marinha,
jasmim e bandeira,
motor de música,
longa pétala de ouro,
campana submarina,
celeiro
inextinguível,
obrigado
terra de cada um
de meus dias,
vapor celeste e sangue
de meus anos,

desde a mais diáfana altura
até a simples mesa
dos pobres,
